A long-standing partnership is what we strive for at Maxicon. This is no different at Workhouses August Firlefyn (WAF). Wondering how they view our cooperation? You can find out all about it in the interview below with Tom De Schutter, internal final manager for new construction projects at WAF.

How would you describe WAF's activity?

Tom De Schutter: "Currently, WAF has grown into a well-known name in Belgium in the field of the production and assembly of tippers and swap systems and the assembly of container systems and loading cranes on trucks. Active product development, flexibility, close contact with the customer and a thorough sense of quality have made WAF what it is today, a family-run SME that is a market leader in its sector, versatile and constructive."

What is your role within the company?

Tom De Schutter:"Internal final responsibility for new construction projects. This ranges from purchasing materials, to personnel, to technical support in the workshop."

In what area can Maxicon provide added value for WAF?

Tom De Schutter:"Originally to absorb work peaks. But meanwhile also as a permanent cooperation because finding suitable colleagues on our shop floor is not easy."

"The relationship between WAF and Maxicon has existed since you started out. Started as prospecting, in the meantime it has grown into a long-term cooperation."
- Tom De Schutter, WAF

Can you give some more information about the project the technicians are allowed to contribute to?

Tom De Schutter:"External technicians always work in our workshop in Kruibeke. Here we work in small groups, each with their final responsibility. External technicians help us assemble tippers and hook systems that have to be mounted on trucks. In our industry, 'assembly' means welding, grinding, punching, cutting and bending metals to assemble tipper trucks and hook systems, which must meet strict requirements. We rarely do large series, which makes every project a challenge every time."

Tom De Schutter:"We also rely on Maxicon in the repairs department. Our customers come to this department if they have mechanical, hydraulic, electrical problems. We try to help our customers as quickly as possible, so that they can quickly get back on the road or yard with their truck."

How would you describe the cooperation with Maxicon? Both with our employee on the shop floor and the responsible contact person.

Tom De Schutter:"The cooperation with Maxicon goes well. Transparency is important here and has to come from two sides. To date, I may well mention that this is going well!"

What is for you the secret of a successful cooperation?

Tom De Schutter:"On this one, I come back to transparency along the two sides. Giving and taking must be in balance here."

What, in your opinion, are important (character) attributes for a technical employee?

Tom De Schutter:"Flexibility, even though external technicians usually stay in the department where they start, each company, each department has its own way of approaching and working."

How do you see WAF growing within five years?

Tom De Schutter:"Because of our commitment, experience, sense of quality, customisation according to our customers' wishes, we are convinced to hold our position as a structural engineer."
